About

Slowly getting around to updating this here blog and all that entails...I'm kind of trying to figure out this About Me thing. ;)

But if you're wondering about the slightly odd name of my blog, read this post.

Hmmm....It's kind of weird writing a page just about me.

I mean obviously this blog is basically about me, but it's easier to jump off from writing about a project, or my garden, or thoughts on things or quilts.

My name is Ashleigh. I am married to Mr. Gardener aka Josh and we've been married for three awesome, but learning-filled years. We are a great little family and we're blessed to live close to my family, as well.

We live in Virginia, but we met in Houston when I was a 2007 Teach for America Corps Member. That was an eventful experience, to say the least. (The Teach for America bit, not the meeting Josh bit. I mean, that was eventful too , but in a happier way.) I'm glad I did it. I learned a lot; I met Josh. It definitely changed my perspectives on a lot of things. But if TFA approached me to teach again, I'd tell them absolutely not. Those were three very rough years of my life. Some people are better at it than others and while I absolutely believe God called me to do it, I also firmly believe that it was a calling for a season and that season, thankfully is over. I really only include this to explain my earlier blog posts...if you go back that far. Part of me wants to delete them as I'm in such a different place now than then, but I think it's also important to remember where you've been and see how far you've come.

If you teach, you have all of my respect.

I have another job now, which I love. It keeps me very busy, but nothing like before. :)

I love gardening. We live in a little townhouse with a yard about the size of a postage stamp, so I am all about the container gardening. I believe that flowers and edibles should always co-habitate, so you'll see lots of pictures of petunias, peppers, tomatoes, and hopefully, lots and lots of zinnias.

I also love crafting. I've scrapbooked and made all sorts of crafty things. Right now, my passion is sewing, specifically quilting, so you'll see my adventures in those domains here a lot. I have a hard time finishing things (even though I hate unfinished things, I'm a study in contradiction), so this helps me keep accountable to finish. I've also learned so much from other blogs that if I can even point someone in the right direction, I'd love to do so.

Mr. Gardener and I also love music. Almost all kinds...classic rock, bluegrass (a small part of me dies every time I admit that - I spent a good chunk of my childhood railing against bluegrass), country, Tejano, classical, pop, etc. He is an awesome, awesome guitar player and we play for a Christian community to which we belong and sometimes we play in bars or pubs. I do a little singing. He's doing a lot of recording right now, so maybe I'll have the chance to share some of that with you.

Finally, I love my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He's given me an opportunity to share about the things I love, the gifts He's given me, and I hope that in sharing those things with you, I can be a blessing and share Him with you, as well. He has blessed me in so many ways and carried me through so many things, that I hope that I can be but a tiny blessing to you through Him.

Thanks for joining as I figure out God's calling for my life!
